Dispelling the Myths Surrounding Boxes
Boxed wines have earned a very bad reputation not only among the wine aficionados, but even among the newly initiated into the world of wine who very quickly learn to disdain anything coming out of a box. And who can blame them with brand like Franzia and Almaden producing barely drinkable plunk for almost three decades now. However, more and more great winemakers are working to dispell the myth that all boxed wines are bad. The concept is simple, if you put bad wine into a box, bad wine comes out. If you put great wine into a box, great wine comes out.
The true fact of the matter is that the new "boxes", which don't even look much like boxes anymore, are some of the best containers for storing wine. The enemies of wine are always heat, light and air. A typical glass bottle does all it can to keep out these enemies to the best of its abilities, but glass does not fend off heat very well, lets at lest some light in (if you can see the wine, light is getting in), and the cork allows air to get in (some time on purpose, some times not). On the other hand, the new "boxes" can moderate temperature very well, can keep out all light and also keep out all air. Winemakers love them because the keep the wine fresh for a very long time, but if they dared put there wine in them, it was doomed to sit on the shelf for an eternity. A few bold winemakers are revolutionizing the industry, so lets take a look at a few new box wine packagings:
The Newest Kid on the Block: The OCTAVIN (see #1)

The Best for the Beach: The TETRA PAK (see #2)
